Wink Final Fantasy VI (secret) project
I'm working on a project for FF6 but will not release the name or concept yet until I have a playable demo available. I will however list my project progress.

Note: Adjusted categories in progress list below.

Dialogue: 10%
Characters: 75%
Enemies: 90%
Graphics: 75%
Items: 90%
Spells: 5%
Music: 95%
Overworld: 95%
Maps: 0%
Events: 0%
Assembly: 10%
Menus: 0%
Miscellaneous: 10%

Overall: 43%



Notes:

-The story / dialogue will not take very long to do, it is just a painstaking process to do it.
-Characters and Monsters are probably next easier item to do.
-Maps and events will be the most time consuming and most difficult.
-Menu changes are just straight up assembly hacking so I'll need some assistance with that one.

Pretty interested in checking this out down the road, always love me some FFIV.

I was actually thinking about trying to make an FF1 hack, since it's one of my fav old school games.

I'm kind of a purist as far as playing hacks go, I like HardTypes and how they generally stay true to the original game, but, I like new content as well.

I'm not sure if you've ever played the_icepenguin's Zelda II hacks, but, I finished those Hard Patches for my YouTube channel and loved them.

Anyway, I think it would be cool to have like uber dungeons in FFIV or FF1 to test your mettle at the end of the game. I was thinking about something like that, haha.

Well, can't wait to check this out.. all the best.

Updated percentages. I'm going to gather up all my files on this in a central location and go through them again. Look nothing in to it, I'm not coming out of retirement. ;)

Well it will be something that isn't really either. It will be different than the standard Final Fantasy 6 game.

Also, on a side note, FF6hacking.com is close due to a lack of funds from the site owner. We don't know when the forum will be back, if it ever does. In the meantime I'm setting up my own forum for my hack development and other projects.

I'm mulling over the idea of coming out of retirement to resume working on this mod. I'm going to need help but it shouldn't be too terribly difficult since I've done some work on it already.

My main needs would be (any combination of the below is also helpful):
  • Someone who is an assembly hacker (preferably with FF6 or Squaresoft games in general)
  • Someone who can help me fill in the missing gaps on monster graphics and help me create the characters/NPCs
  • Someone who can compose music from scratch in FF6 (will only need a little over a dozen tracks, and they are super simple)
  • Someone who can assist me with coding events

I need mostly specific monster graphics, class and gender-specific character sprite graphics, and some misc NPC graphics. How's your ROM hacking skills for FF3us/FF6 these days? :cool:

Because it won't really spoil anything here is a thumbnail of the overworld in low detail to preserve spoilers.

I'm going to add a tiny bit more to it, mostly an easter egg and story specific stuff but it should be pretty complete. As you can see I was pretty serious about this mod... I really want to finish it and I really need help from some experienced FF6 hackers for the hard stuff like assembly and events.

I am willing to help with ASM. Preferably if your ASM tasks could be put into small independent projects, I could tackle as many without committing to the whole thing which I'd prefer, leaving the door open at the same time to another ASM coder if someone is interested.

As for events, I can answer your questions or show you things but I don't want specifically to code events all by myself.

Ok I've got almost all of the enemy sprites located and some finished and ready for import. My main issue now is there is a sizable chunk of the remaining sprites that have a large number of colors so when I reduce the colors down to 16 colors (which FF6 needs) in GIMP some of them look like crap. This is where I'll need someone who can work some magic.

One of the things I'd like some advice on is monster battle AI. But that'll wait once I get some other things done. I've got to focus on getting the graphics all done before worrying about battle AI scripts.

The animations are rough, and you'll need a swf player, but this is probably some of the better sprite work I've done.
