RE: Happy Birthday thread!
i didn't really expect something like this here since i'm not too active, but it's nice nonetheless, thank you.

a friend of mine from elementary school forgot it, although he reminded me in a jokingly manner that he expects an invitation to the party, as he knows that i don't really celebrate birthdays anymore.
it's not that i care about it that much, yet that surprised me.

RE: Happy Birthday thread!
Thanks, though for us across the pond it is still technically 11/04. :) I usually don't like celebrating my birthday, but, my wife and family are insisting on doing just that.

RE: Happy Birthday thread!
Nevermind, read it again first thing in the morning and act surprised Grin

My mom (I'm a little confused here, is it spelled mom or mum? or is one of them the british and the other is the american version?) also insists on celebrating birthdays with cake, coffee and presents. It's ok for me, but I don't really need a special date to spend time with my parents and have a talk.
I think she'll insist on that rite even without grandma, she already told me that she awaits me for christmas dinner and asked me what I wanted to have.
On the other hand it's not something I particularly hate, so be it if it makes them happy.

RE: Happy Birthday thread!
Sounds like you are in a similar boat as I am with the family vehemently wanting to celebrate holidays and birthdays.

RE: Happy Birthday thread!
Yeah well at least birthdays, but beside christmas and new year's eve we don't really have anything that is celebrated like your thanksgiving or halloween.

RE: Happy Birthday thread!
I don't really like those days either beyond just spending it with family/friends. "Celebrating" those days seems excessive to me. I am in the minority for sure in that over here though...

It seems like both in your country and family/friends. Besides having some chocolate and a feast doesn't sound too bad to me Grin

RE: Happy Birthday thread!
Happy Birthday, JC! I don't celebrate holidays either. It's just people's excuse for taking days off from work. lol. Anyways, you guys may not know it, but the word, "Holiday," is a secular (non-religious) term derived from Holy Days, which were dedicated to Religious ceremonies from ancient Israel. On those days, the entire Nation of Israel don't work nor do the farm animals and the hired help. So today, the Western and some Eastern nations follow the same traditions by celebrating "Holidays."

The traditions do go back even further than Israel with Religious Days celebrating in ancient Rome, Britain, Netherlands, Greece, and further back over 4,000 years ago in Egypt.

RE: Happy Birthday thread!
Sounds promising and since this is a forum about games and stuff I think it could be related to that topic, but on the other hand you're pretty philophic and what not, so I'm not too sure about it, but nevermind - I'll eagerly await your answer Grin
